Are you registered to vote?

We are 100 days away from the next general election.

There is much to review between now and then, but I’ll start by concentrating on what will be the prevailing topic: Are you registered to vote?

I implore you to not take for granted that you are simply because you’ve voted in the past. Checking can be done online, is quick and easy. I just looked at mine to make sure it is current. And I will check again as we get nearer Nov. 3 because mistakes happen and because too many states have been purging voter rolls.

Whether you’re wanting to check your registration, or you know you need to register, here’s a great place to go for links and information, Vote 411 at https://www.vote411.org/. It is hosted by the respected League of Women Voters, which has for 100 years “been a nonpartisan, activist, grassroots organization that believes voters should play a critical role in democracy,” as is stated on its website.

Their sites contain considerable information and will develop it more deeply as the election nears. You’ll be able to check on early voting, polling locations, what will be on your ballot, etc. One of the most helpful things, as you study up for all the races (There’s much more than the presidential race going on!) is a Q&A they make available to candidates.

So, right now, 100 days out, the most important thing you can do is register to vote or make sure you’re registered. As soon as dates are set, plan to vote early, if your state allows it, so you can avoid the crowds and any last-minute problems. If voting by mail is an option for you in your state, consider that.

I would love to hear your thoughts.
