OK, here’s another list I’ve been compiling for more than a year. Don’t worry, I’ll get back to reality soon … maybe even today … so stay tuned.
Speaking of tuning (yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s a stretch), most all of us now are familiar with tuning in to a Wi-Fi host when we’re away from home. Hotels, restaurants, public parks, even doctor’s offices may offer a hotspot one can use to access the virtual world.
Next came the ability for us common folk to carry a hotspot with us when we travel, even one that’s part of our smartphones. And soon there arrived the awesome option of naming your hotspot.
Living in an RV as we do, there are new opportunities every time we move – indeed, even when we stay put and other campers move in. Watching for the cleverest Wi-Fi names, I started making a list maybe two years ago.
Pennygetyourownwifi – Anyone who kept up with the sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” will recognize this as one of the names Sheldon used in a fruitless campaign to persuade neighbor Penny to not use his Wi-Fi. This was in “The Roommate Transmogrification,” the 24th episode and final episode of the fourth season It first aired on Thursday, May 19, 2011.
MeeWeeFee – Obviously a play on the MyWiFi Networks used by thousands of businesses.
Bill Wi the Science Fi – If you don’t catch the reference to Bill Nye the Science Guy, then you might have grown up in a Trump household.
mysterymachine0228 – The Mystery Machine is the nickname for the iconic, brightly colored van that gets the Scooby-Doo gang from one point to another. As for 0228 … do you have any ideas?
Lemonjello – My first thought was a simple tribute to a snack. Maybe, but there was also an urban myth making the rounds about twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello. Or, digging deeper, there was a pop musician whose birth name was Peter Limengello, which he changed to Peter Lemongello. Do you know of his work?
VENTIBITCH – This is a good time to note I’ve endeavored to retain spaces and capital and lower-case letters the same as I found them. I’ll step out on a limb here and guess the owner of this Wi-Fi really loves coffee.
Rosebud – I choose to believe this is a tribute to “Citizen Kane.”
ShakwantesRoom – I only turned up references to Shakwante as a first name. Maybe it will be the name of a distant planet someday in the future.
I.Vera – This sounds like a book title … or a movie starring Will Smith.
Sangedakru – I see this listed as the name of a clan and/or an area from the TV series “The 100.” I know nothing of the series; you’re going to have to help me out here.
Slowding *and* Still Slowding – These two had me baffled, but doing my research for this (Hey, you didn’t think I was making up ALL of this, did you?) I found an Urban Dictionary definition which included, “Slow loading internet access on a computer. Combination of slow and loading.” When you put it that way, well, duh.
Iron Church – Well, there’s St. Stephen Church, also known as the Bulgarian Iron Church, in Istanbul, Turkey. There are also some tin churches. And it’s the name of a gym. I can’t help but feel there’s something else.
PineappleExpress – Like me, you may have initially thought of the 2008 movie by the same name. However, I haven’t seen it and just now learned Pineapple Express is also a hybrid marijuana strain.
